Linguaphone All Talk German is an audio-only course that has been devised to help you understand and speak German without having to consult written material, apart from a short introduction and vocabulary and verb guides.
During the entertaining story of Jane's visit to Munich you will hear native speakers from Germany conversing at normal speed, and with practice you will quickly understand and speak German as it is spoken. Because you will “hear” the language - rather than “see” a written version of it – your accent will be an authentic copy of the native speaker accent.
Linguaphone All Talk is different to other language courses. The course evolves around a series of story dialogues. The story develops around Jane’s visit to Munich and all the problems he encounters. It’s an enjoyable and entertaining storyline and sees Jane learning about Germany, German culture and most importantly, learning the German language
Learn by Listening
It is sometimes difficult to gain an authentic accent when you can see the words in your own alphabet. Working from sounds alone rapidly gives you confidence in what you hear. It also removes the desire to ‘see’ the language before daring to use or respond to it.
You’re in control
Linguaphone all Talk utilises the highly-successful tried and tested Linguaphone method of ‘listen, understand and speak’. One of the great advantages of this audio-only course is that you are in control, and the pace of your learning is entirely up to you.
Included with all the vocabulary and grammar, there are dialogues, comprehension tests and other learning activities. You will also hear a number of what we’ve called ‘verb boxes’ – brief sections in which you can listen to some of the different forms of useful German verbs. Overall it’s a highly enjoyable language course and designed to get you speaking German in no time.

- found the course easy to follow
I did 'O' Level German a very very long time ago. Needed to brush up on it, so bought this course to play in the car. It's good, but not so miraculous as to have you speaking perfect German by the end of it. It will give you a grasp of very basic... Read More German with a small vocabulary. You will need to build on this by using the course in conjunction with books and other learning methods if you're serious about learning German. And if you are starting from scratch, you will probably have to listen to each lesson two or three times before moving on to the next one.
A variety of methods are used throughout the course. It is led by two 'teachers', an English man and a German woman, who introduce new vocabulary and grammar before each piece of conversation. Then there are the snippets of conversation. The bulk of these form the story of Jane and Stefan. Jane, a sweet but incompetent English woman, goes to represent her company at a trade fair in Munich. Here she meets Stefan, a German colleague who is supposed to help her with the fair and teach her German, but who from the outset clearly has other intentions. The story has a simple, cheesy plot, but it does help to maintain interest in the lessons. (One slightly annoying feature for me was the overemphasis throughout the middle section of the course on ordering food and drink in restaurants. There is more to life than this.)
I liked the format, and found the course easy to follow. It's been good using my half hour car journey to work for something more useful than Radio 2 over the last month or so. If you listen to it regularly you will find (basic) German words and phrases seeping effortlessly into your brain. The course is well presented, with the sixteen CD's stored in a neat wallet, which also holds the small vocabulary booklet. This booklet covers the vocabulary used in the course and is no substitute for a decent dictionary. Sound production is good; the voices are pleasant and clear. I would recommend this course to anyone wishing to acquire a basic, practical level of German
